| Comments | A small wheel is held against the tape whilst the machine is playing (open reel machines only), this turns a disc within the unit, which is marked with alternate light and dark bands. When viewed under a 50Hz light source, the bands will appear stationery if the tape speed is correct. This is more often found on record decks, using either a drop on printed disc, or with marks that are moulded onto the side of the platten. I found this item at an amateur radio rally a few years ago, the seller had a couple of cases of these, all brand new - wish I'd got a few more! |
